ery rarely does a Marathi film get a standing ovation from the audience and ‘Lokmanya – Ek Yugpurush’ is one of those rare films that evoke this reaction.
Not much needs to be said about Lokmanya Tilak and his contribution to the freedom movement. Be it the purpose of starting the Swadeshi movement, New English School, the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav celebrations or that of the newspapers Kesari and Maratha, Tilak’s contribution has had a significant impact on the freedom struggle and shaping of the society in general. But of late there has arisen a need of dusting the cobwebs that have formed on his ideologies and thoughts. Director Om Raut and Kaustubh Savarkar do this very dusting with a very thought provoking and well-researched piece of history by putting it onscreen for the uber-tolerant commoners of today.
On the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 93rd birthday today, a biopic titled Yugpurush Atal was announced here. Produced by Rajeev Dhamija, Amit Joshi and Ranjeet Sharma under the Spectrum Movies banner, the film has been written by Basant Kumar and will be directed by Mayank P. Srivastava.
The upcoming bilingual film Adipurush has been making waves ever since it was announced. There is a lot of anticipation for the film as the movie is based on the highly revered epic Ramayana and also because of the high production values. The trailer of the film was released on Tuesday amid much fanfare and it was better received than the teaser, which had faced backlash due to shoddy VFX. The director of Adipurush, Om Raut is best known for the historical action drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior starring Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan. Let us get to know the director better.
