Just before the Rio Olympics, India’s ace doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta

Just before the Rio Olympics, India’s ace doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta stars in a brand-new campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. Posing with a badminton racquet, she appears next to the silhouette of a rooster and the words “Badminton Is a Sport – Cockfighting Is Not”.

Indian women’s doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta assured on Thursday that she and her partner Ashwini Ponnappa will give their best at the upcoming Summer Olympics and will be aiming for a podium finish.

“I am proud to be a part of Team India at Rio 2016. We’ll give our best for the nation #NamakKeWaastey,” the Arjuna awardee tweeted on Thursday along with a photo of herself and Ashwini in the streets of Rio.

The 32-year-old has been representing India on the international circuit for more than 15 years, and has attained a personal best rank of 10 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

Former badminton star Jwala Gutta has criticised Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan for his comments about wanting his employees to work on Sundays. Subrahmanyan’s remarks quickly went viral, with Gutta pointing out that it is sad people are not taking mental health and rest seriously.
